Heavy lifting, Tineghir, Morocco, 2006

This sheep needed a boost to reach its cage on top of the truck. The man doing the heavy lifting in this remote Moroccan town wears, of all things, an incongruous "New York" baseball cap. Many jobs in the workplace require great physical effort, including this one. The feet of the sheep and the foot of the man meet a lower left, creating a sense of imbalance and tension. The truck and cage flow create energy that flows in the same direction as the lift, drawing the eye into and through the image.

Good to hear from you again, Likyin, and thank you for being the first to comment on this photograph. What you say is very true -- this is a picture of two living species interacting. One is in complete control of the other, who, as you point out, has no idea of what is going on. The man meanwhile is just doing his job. In the end, this sheep is probably being taken to its doom -- yet neither of them seems to either realize it or even care. It gives new meaning to the phrase "following like sheep."

Don't know why there's no comment on this image. I found it the most intriguing in this gallery. Not much about heavy lifting physically, but more about how we interact with other species living in the same planet. The man was in a very intimate contact with another live being, just look at how he held its arm and the poor sheep was trying to understand what's going on and what to do, trying with its legs... He probably was talking to it like 'come on, cross the fence ...'

The communication crossing species, what is it for and how did it happen are the most fascinating message I found in this piece.

It's a living being that he's lifting! Not only weight!! And the poor thing has no idea what's going on, while he's just doing his job.
