Patience, Royal Palace, Rabat, Morocco, 2006

I juxtapose one of the palace’s staff members, who stands in the morning sun, with the palace security officers who gather in the cold shadows. The juxtaposition of light and shadow also implies a gulf in status – the men in the shadows have authority, while the man revealed in the light does not. He seems to be patiently waiting for information, but it is slow in coming.

Thanks again, Philippe -- expressive photography should be a spark that kindles the imagination of the viewer. This image seems to have done that here.

Yes, and that contributes to make photography so rich and fascinating.

Thanks, Philippe, for using your imagination and seeing this man as being annoyed and possibly concealing his anger. I watched him for several minutes and he seemed perfectly content just to hang around the gate and listen to the banter of the security officers. But that gives me an advantage. I took this moment out of that context, and leave it up to my viewers to come to their own conclusions about how he is feeling. Responses are ambiguous -- we must consider them within their context. I allow my viewers to come to their own conclusions here. My image is a starting point -- the rest will play out in imaginations such as your own.

"seems to be patiently waiting": My impression is that he looks annoyed and represses his emotions, as hinted by his lips. Also, I can imagine him making a fist with his hand in his pocket.
