The interplay of light and shadow on these gourds in a Marrakesh souk made them look as if they had come from the ancient world. The light reveals both smooth and rough textures, and it is the contrast between those textures that defines the image.
Thanks, Chris, for praising my eye here. But to tell the truth, I was looking for light first, rather than subject matter -- and I found the kind of light I wanted here (what artists call "chiaroscuro" -- the effect of contrasted light and shadow created by light falling unevenly from a particular direction on something.) That "something" just happened to be these gourds. The interplay of light and shadow creates textures that make these gourds acquire a timeless appearance.
Fantastic and smart work here Phil. It looks like some ancient monuments. The colour of the gourds together with the morning light made them look like that. Very good eye:)
