Dean Arseniu 30-Jul-2021 15:25
My grandfather Mitchell Arseniu was stationed here 57-59. I recently came across photos of him and where he worked, other friends and soldiers, and pictures of the training. There are other soldiers from 57-59 in the photos with hand written notes from him. In the photo from his barracks it says 69th AAA GC US Army on the sign. Im really trying to find information about my grandfather and possibly share the photos. Please email me at dmadetails@gmail.com.

I was assigned there in Oct 72 - Jul 75 I was the Unit Clerk for Co B, 78th Engr Bn (Cbt) Herbert Doby was the other clerk with me that I remember, I can'nt remember the clerks name I replaced but he was a good guy, I can still see his face and remember some of the crazy things we did, I can't belive I can't remember his name we even shared an Apartment off post togather I had the top Apt he had the lower. I think most all of us stationed there were young guys for the most part new to being out of Country. Germany seem to be a great Country to be stationed to but the added benefit to be station in a small town of Ettlingen Germany at Rhindland Kaserne what a great duty station. I also remember how close we were to Karlsuhe, where the Main Exchange was located and worth the trip to grap cigarettes and booze. I wish I could find a list of all the guys stationed there during that period but don't have a clue as to how to find one.. I stumbled on to this site so don't know how many will even seen this message. But to everyone who was stationed at the 78th Engr Bn (Cbt) no matter what unit I wish you the best and know we all shared a special experience at Rhindland Kaserne / Ettlingen Germany) ,,,,,,

Hello, John Petrone here. I just visited Rheinland in June '12. The back half is gone...No motorpool or EM club...I was in the 502nd from '66-'68...HQ Platoon...
My old barracks is gone as well...Took a walk into Ettlingen and it looked in great shape. Many nice cafe's and shopping...No more Piccolo or Beer Hall though...I'm glad
that I returned after 44 years...

I was a machinist with the 620th from 1961 to 1964. The place across the street was called the "Deck" then, shortened from "Rheinlandeke", I believe. I was pulling guard duty on the day President Kennedy was shot. I also remember having boiled bacon sandwiches and a bowl of coffee at the Latvian Club. A lot of memories--good and bad. Thanks for posting the photos. Joe

I was in Rheinland Kaserne from July of 74 to August of 75. I knew Gene Strickland. When he got out I believe he lived in Hazelwood, Illinois, just north of St Louis.
I remember a guy named Pollack and I think he was the Movie House guy.
I was SP/4 Battalion S-4 Clerk down in the basement of HQ company. I remember my first night there I went up to the NCO Club and met a guy named Bob (don't remember his last name) that was in Charlie Company in the 78th He made me feel right at home. I told him he was like the welcome wagon committee. Our paths didn't cross much due to me being in HQ company and all but being a young kid in a foreign county this guy made it alright. Anyone that feels they knew me or just wants to contact someone from that time frame my email is listed on my profile .

My name is Jess Keopke,
I was stationed at the Rheinland Kaserne in Ettlingen in 1964. I was with the 502nd Engineer Floating Bridge company, and I am thrilled to find these pictures of the kaserne. I was transferred from the 502nd to the 55th Engineer Panel bridge company at Smiley Barracks in Karlsruhe after making SGT E5, and stayed at Smiley until I left Germany in late 1967.

I was stationed at Rheinland Kaserene Ettlingen, Germany in 1955 before our Engr. Pipile Co. was deactivated. I was then sent to the 94th Engr. Bn. Nellingen, Germany. Your first picture I remember as the Main Gate to the Kaserene. There was a gate guard at all times checking passes, etc. To the right was the PX and Snack Bar. The building on the left was the guard house, etc.
