As part of the ceremonies for Nyepi, the Balinese new year, many villages construct ogoh-ogohs! These are huge monster dolls with menacing fingers and frightening faces. The day before Nyepi, the ogoh-ogoh will be carried through the town on a bamboo polls to frighten away evil spirits. They are then burned in a huge bonfire. Come to Bali at the tight time in March or April and you'll see many of these creatures being constructed.
