My father moved to Vienna in the mid-1920s. As far as we can determine, this was where
he lived initially: Tandelmarktgasse 5a, apartment 18. I was in Vienna for a meeting
in October 2006 and visited the building, which not only still stands, but seems to
have been renovated fairly recently. The neighborhood, off Taborstrasse, across the Danube Canal
from the center of town, appears to be populated largely by Jewish immigrants from
Eastern Europe, Africans, and other newcomers to Austria.
