I have two photos for today. I decided to go out to the airport and practice with the 100-400 zoom. There has to be some combination of settings and technique that will produce reliably good frames. I tried using the mode two IS and that seemed to work pretty well. The one thing I found is that it is impossible to switch modes in the middle of a pass. So I kept it in mode 2. I find myself taking too many photos of airplanes too far away. If you are shooting take offs, wait until the thing gets close and use mode 2, and you get better results. Another thing is focus. I half press and then spend a second reframing the shot. Meanwhile, the object is moving and passes out of focus. I gotta work on that too. It was a real pleasant late afternoon at LaPorte. Lots of mosquitos, however.
