PEACOCK– NYMPHALIS IO or INACHIS IO – PAON DU JOUR

Peacock has a wingspan of 50 to 60 mm.
This species is found in orchards, gardens, fields and pastures, with numerous flowers.
It lives in temperate Europe and Asia.
It spends the winter in hollows and crevices, as well in trees as in rocks and walls.
It feeds mainly on nectar flowers, thistles, buddleias and dandelions, but also on rotten fruit and tree sap.
Female lays its eggs in early spring, up to 500 at a time.
This species is common and widespread.
