Bird of Paradise

I didn't post this picture because it's such a good photo.
The fact is my good friend Robin Reid and I shared a meal today,
and he lent (loaned?) me his 100 mm macro lens so I could try it out.

I snuck up on a Bird of Paradise in his front yard, discovered how
narrow the DOF actually is on a macro lens, and just for fun focused
on the back of the flower, as you see here. I had no idea the
background would become black (it was actually green shrubbery). I
was stunned when I saw the image on the computer screen for the first time.

I instantly saw the possibilities. A whole new world out there to
photograph... Woohoo! Anyway, the bottom line is: I LOVE THIS LENS!

Unfortunately, despite the fact that my birthday looms ahead, Mr. Reid
made me give it back to him before I left for home. Sigh. Perhaps
you can urge him to change his mind. :-)

Wow... that is in a league too far advanced for me to play in.

100 f/2.8 USM Macro... definitely one of my favorites! The 180L Macro is another nice one if you want a little room from the subject. They'll have to pry my 100 from my cold dead fingers one day ;)

It was some of Robin's images that convinced me to buy this lens as well.

What a beauty shot ~ a fleeting glimpse of the Ol' Bird (LOL, sorry Robin.. pun intended). Guess it's time to talk to Santa & start behaving ;^D GMV

Before you buy one you should also check out the 180mm macro.

Perhaps a reasonable loan of the lens then ???...6 months on your camera, 6 months on RR's...sounds like a good arrangement to me !! :>) I would share my 60mm if we lived nearby, Gary cause once you get the macro bug your trapped !!

A lot of people rave about this prime lens Gary. You made great use of it, and produced a terrific result. It was great seeing you today. And no, I'm not giving you the lens! ;-)
