This critter lives in the alpine area (above tree line). Marmots hibernate for 7 to 8 months! (winter is long here, in fact, our short visit in CO early in September coincided with a snow storm in the mountains). To do that, marmot has to double in size during very short summer. When it hibernates, it lowers its body temperature to 40F!
