Cirr medusae 02

Southside Place, Texas

a species from SE Asia
I am working on my non studio orchid shooting technique
I have been using fill flash with an on board UltraBounce attached to the SB800
this seems to give the best results, keeping in mind that as with many things, for flash less is more
I must do these more outside the patio as the screen screws up the bokeh

FujiFilm FinePix S3 Pro ,Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro
1/90s f/13.0 at 105.0mm iso 100 UB fill flash full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

thanks, Derrel
good eye, but that is not diffraction in the background, but the screen from the porch in which I shot this orchid
I should have moved it outdoors

Hi Artichoke,
I prefer this in situ photo of this lovely orchid to the black background one that follows; even with the diffraction apparent in the bokeh,I prefer the variation in the background's tonal values and shapes to the black backdrop version. I know you like the clean black background shots, but this way of composing is more exciting. This would look awesome shot with the 200VR from farther back, and wider open! I dunno...when you use highlights as background like this, the 300/4's not too bad. You could also try moving to f/5.6 from farther back, for less problem with the window screening. Well, hope all's well, and I look forward to the S5- Fuji color and tonality in a decent body! Woo-hoo! The S5 stands a chance of being a very fine Fuji d-slr.
