(This pbase poem was a joint effort. Note to critics...no child was involved in our creative madness!)
Friday night and I sit alone
Staring aimlessly at my wine glass
Reflections of my life dancing on the side
Nothing more than memories of the past.
Saddened by the realization of where I'm at
Longing for something more
But never knowing what I'm looking for
And finding all in this life a bore.
In disgust I pour another glass
Trying to decipher what the future holds
Is there anything worth fighting for
Yes, hope is what I long to behold.
Enraged, I throw my glass against the wall
A temporary release of the built up anger
As I look at my child asleep on the floor
All the innocence of youth I remember.
As I kiss her cheek and carry her to bed
Under my breath a solemn prayer
You're the reason for my every breath
My future, my life, the only reason I care.
