This image was an overstretch for my 300mm lens +2x TC but it is a nice record shot of a rare endemic. It is closely monitored - vide the rings (bands).
Andrew , well done I know from experience how difficult it is to catch up with this species , habitat and elusiveness being the cause .I was at Quinton Lodge , the last of the lodges on the Milford track at the request of the managers(back in the mid ninties). They had been there for a few seasons . I wondered off by myself .Just below the lodge there was a beautiful little stream . I heard some strange(to me)bird calls . I crept through the bush and there was a pair of these rare creatures playing in the rapids . I watched and photographed them for about a half hour . I was in heaven . The locals were so mad . they hadn't even got a glimpse of one in all the time they had been there . just the luck of the draw .
