1958 - Masters Field Course - Motorsports Racing at former Marine Corps Air Station Miami, now Miami-Dade College North Campus
Masters Field, NW Dade County
This motorsports course was used for races in 1958 and 1959. A planned race in 1962 was canceled due to the use of the base for staging military supplies and equipment during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It is located on NW 27th Avenue east of Amelia Earhart Field on the other side of the railroad tracks.
Mr. Boyd,
I can't believe I found this site. I was 5 years old when my daddy took us to the races at the Master Field Course. We loved it as children. It was my sister and baby brother. We were regulars at the Hialeah Speedway races...My folks had friends who were husband and wife that use to race there. The woman's race was called the Powder Derby if I can recollect, I believe that's what they called the race. When there was an accident it was time consuming waiting for them to clean up the mess. If there was a fatality it was pretty bad.
I lived in this section of town for 21 years and loved it. The A&W was a hit on 27th Avenue not far from the races...I can remember it as if it was yesterday. Anita Dee
