The body of the bag can be raised about 2-3 inches by releasing a tab on each side of the shoulder strap, and the green flaps secured behind the outer horizontal "press top" edges to open the bag into a larger rectangular space. This image shows the bag opened without this extension. This allows easier access with the bag on your shoulder
