Room 176 and east wall

Chaco Culture National Historic Park, New Mexico

Notice the good masonry used in this section of the wall—stones carefully fitted together and held in place with mud and mortar.
The small square openings about waist level were used for admitting light and fresh air into the rooms.
The circular holes about head high are sockets for beam poles which once supported the ceiling of the room just inside the pueblo.
