I really like your result, Gary. Only other thought for mounting I could come up with is maybe create a blue felt board (with felt or similar fabric to match the blue in photo) and make it big enough so edges would stick out past total dimensions equivalent to inside spacing - it would almost look like it was framed then, and hopefully the darkish blue would not disrupt the view of overall image.
Gary - that worked out very well. For an alternate to the wall as a background, maybe you could find a 9-pane windowframe and place photos behind the panes. You'd likely need to reprint them to fit though.
