The swim across the Golden Gate starts from this beach under the Golden Gate Bridge. The Dolphin Club was doing this swim long before the bridge was built. The first time I did the swim I got into the turbulence at the base of the first tower. It was like trying to swim in a washing machine. I actually started laughing, my face in the cold salt water. All the way across I was thinking about sharks, which certainly are around. But in the long history of the club, over 125 years, there's never been a shark incident.
