Little Guys in the Grass

I was cutting grass yesterday in the field out back on the riding mower and on my next pass I saw something moving under the grass I had cut moments before. I pulled back some grass and in a fur lined small hole, a mere depression really, I found four baby rabbits unharmed. I took a few pictures and I’ll check later today to see if momma returned. After cutting the grass, there wasn't much cover for her. Their eyes aren’t opened yet.

Back when I was a kid our dog brought home four uninjured about the same age, and the siamese cat raised them until we released them.

Oh my word! What a lucky escape for these little souls. Do hope they were OK and reunited with Mum. Lovely photo.

Ah, good they're safe and not hit by your mower Buz :o) If this was taken on Aug. 16, perhaps they're now grown and running round and round :)

It's a pity rabbits are such a pest in Australia, because it prejudices most of us against them. These are definitely cute little bundles, and it's an unusual and interesting photo. We hardly ever see them this young. Well done.

Fantastic find! Wow!

Nice shot Buz. I find at least one nest a year that way. If left alone the mother will raise them right there. Some times she moves them if I check on them too much.

Aaah, how cute. I bet mom will come back. My neighbors mowed their yard recently and there was a big mama rabbit sitting right in the middle of the yard trying to cover up her nest.

They have been close to get an hair cut, if not an ear cut ;-)
Nice find, Buz!
Bob Foisel17-Aug-2006 17:04
Cute guys all cover with clippings, I guess mama has a relocation job or you won't have to mow for a few more weeks. Nice find.
purpod17-Aug-2006 17:01
Thank Goodness they made it safely thru your pass! Adorable shot, Buz. I sure hope Mom comes back for 'em!

Four lucky little guys. Seems like I only see the babies after the cats have
deposited their "prize" on the front porch.
Kathy Pedersen17-Aug-2006 15:47
Whew, glad you discorved these precious little ones. Sweet shot!
Guest 17-Aug-2006 15:37

Lol oh so cute. Can't believe these are in your garden... I shudder to think what this would have looked like given the alternative version of how this story could have played out. This is really lovely.
