Gasherbrum IV

Seen from Gore II camp at sunset. I think it's Gasherbrum II (just) visible on the right.

The 10,000 ' west face (Shining Wall) was first climbed by Robert Schauer and Voytek Kurtyka to the north summit in 1985. It's never been repeated. Though just short of 8000 meters by 75 meters and therefore not included with the so-called "world's highest mountains," Gasherbrum IV is by any route a more technically and physically demanding climb compared to most routes on any 8000 meter peak. Masherbrum and Latok I are other examples of "lesser" yet "greater" peaks.

which face is that? One of them is an extremely hard face climb - west face? It is just under 8000m and therefore doesn't meet the 8000m test. First climbed in 1958 by the great Walter Bonatti. Lovely photo
