In 1969 boat builders from Chad were commissioned to build a papyrus boat using images from tomb paintings.
The boat named R I (after the Egyptian sun god Ra) was transported from the base of the pyramids where it was built,
to Morocco where it set sail for Barbados.
After a 3000 mile journey, design flaws caused the trip to be abandoned one week out of Barbados.
10 months later, a second boat Ra II was built and completed the 4000 mile journey in 57 days.
