Northline-Eleven Months Later

Metairie, Louisiana

The live oaks have been mulched and fertilized by the Tree Committee and the area has been cleaned of all debris. But, only one house on the entire Drive is occupied--on the second floor. The houses have been gutted and cleaned for mold but the neighborhood is empty; no pets, no people, no automobiles. This very toney section of Metairie is as silent as a cemetery. The swank clubhouse at the end of this drive is boarded up. Residents are still battling insurance companies and government bureaucracy. Several of the houses are for sale.
The area suffered flood waters of six to 10 feet and it sat for three weeks.

The Live Oaks are so resilliant. One day the people will bounce back too. What a shame :(

Coleen; the insurance companys years ago started as protection rackets and when push comes to shove, they would really rather not settle anything.

It took 2 years here after our big Cedar fire for folks to rebuild. Insurance companies were very slow. We didn't have to contend with Bush's slow pokes.
