6th Place (tie)
...rusting, and remembering
Fremiet

Tamworth, NH

PP technique used..."Fremiet's Fold" I created a transparent layer a bit larger than the images I used. I took the truck image and used the "extract" filter to remove the windshield..leaving the wipers and the gunk around the perimeter. Now I have the truck withot most of the windshield...that shows as transparent. I take the Rogers pass image and drag it onto my transparent base. then I drag on the windshield extracted truck. Now using Free Transform I size the Rogers Pass sign to fit into the windshield space (its layer is UNDER the truck). Here's the cute part. Now I get the original truck image WITH the windshield and drag that EXACTLY on top of the other truck image WITHOUT the windshield. We now have 4 layers 1) transparent base 2) Rogers Pass 3) Truck with no windshield, but with wipers etc 4) original truck pic. Now all I do is to erase the windshield from layer 4. As there is none on layer 3, the Rogers pass layer begins to show as I erase. I can be fairly cavalier about the erasing because the important conponents are on layer 3, I just keep whatever I want around the sign on layer 4. In other words, what you see in the windshield is an optimal combination of what I selected in layer 3 and what I chose NOT to erase in layer 4, flatten, tweak and BINGO. If this is confusing, let me know and I'll e-mail some more detailed instructions. John

Thanks John!!! I copied the instructions to add to my ever growing collection of PP info ;-)) As soon as it isn't 110 degrees in here, I will attempt to follow the directions. I'll take a pic of my car!!!

Wow, I just got done looking at travel info for Montana and then clicked to the Challenge!!! What a fabulous image. I love the trees in the windshield. The colors are wonderful and I like everyone else want to know your PP technique. So glad you are happy to share. I think the learning processes are the most super thing about the Challenges!!

Very cool. I too would like to know this technique. It looks as if the sign is reflected in the window. --Melanie

I'd like to know the ps technique - it really looks like the sign is right there behind the truck.
Did you just get back from a trip out west?
Sony Forums Challenges25-Jul-2006 01:38
Yes, Katherine, the truck, now flat tired, worn, engine in pieces can only remember what went before, its adventures out west (yes, this IS the western continental divide sign and the self same Rogers Pass Melaine). Old and confined, and in the words from the musical "Cats" ....the memories linger on..........

The continental divide sign was ps'd in.....a particular technique I have come up with, use occasionally and am happy to share if anyone is interested. By the way, it's good to be back. John

Very cool shot - I love the composition and colors! I don't get it though - is the old truck supposed to be remembering a trip out west, or is there a Roger's Pass and Continental Divide in New Hampshire?

Fabulous shot John, so much going on here. We have a Rogers Pass near here also. --Melanie
