Captioning, by Anne Eastwood, Remote, Oregon, 2006

Words can be as important to me as the image itself. The captions and titles for my photographs must be accurate and complete. Just after shooting my portrait of Roxalee Barbee ( See it by clicking on the thumbnail at the bottom ) I gathered the information I needed for its caption and title. I am so intent on getting everything correct that I never saw Anne Eastwood make this image. By abstracting my face, Anne stresses the tension in my hands as I write. Meanwhile, Ms. Barbee was very patient with me, and Anne brings that out in this image as well.

Yes, Chris, Anne did a fine job of stressing Ms. Barbee's response to my questions. She abstracts me by shooting as I lower my head, thereby emphasizing the expression on her face.

Beautiful capture. I like the expression of Ms. Barbee.

I am sure Anne will be pleased with your comment, Vanita. Oregon was a great trip. As you know, Dave's trips always are. My best to you and John.

It is an excellent and expressive image.

Thanks, AL, for noting the contrast of the abstracted face to the hands -- by choosing not to show my face, Anne draws attention instead to the intensity of my note taking. And Ms. Barbee's response adds still another contrast to this image -- her patience vs. my concentration..

Thanks to Anne that we get to see your hands and Ms Barbee's face, both equally expressive in own way (and direction). Your hand expression worked perfectly with your face down, letting us sense your concentration and meticulousness. In contrast, Ms Barbee's gaze and body language suggested patience and perhaps deep thoughts of what she'd said and planned to say to you.

I knew what you meant -- and thanks, Jill, for returning to my galleries. It is always a pleasure to hear from you.
Glad you like this series -- I am delighted to be the prop for all of these talented photographers. Hopefully you will be able to join me in a shoot someday, and you can add your own take to this series. I'll look forward to that.

Phil, I am enjoying this series immensely. My favorite is your conversation with the horst, yet each is intriguing and entertaining.
