Scotts Run Falls Raging

Scotts Run Nature Preserve, Virginia

We were a ways downstream chatting when suddenly we hear a loud "whooosh". The sound seemed to be coming from the meager little waterfall, so we went to investigate and found tons of water suddenly raging over the falls. Just moments before a family with small children had been playing in the water, but had safely gotten out.

That is a very scarey story Sayer - a very lucky family indeed. When looking at such beautiful images of waterfalls, you never imagine situations like this could even arise.

Sounds like they let the gates open somwhere, eh. Here, Lake Lanier is our main water reserve. Even the years of drought they'd use it to make electricity while we'd be under water restrictions. Seems a little counter productive since it was a man made lake for the purpose of water supply to begin with. And the influx of people in the area has strained the resource to breaking. I have to wonder what the pay-off of such things are. Haven't ever heard we had an electrical problem here, and I doubt lake turbines play much in the production. Guess I should do some research now that you've made me wonder. Oh sorry.. it did make for a nice shot, and glad no one was hurt.
