The only epiphytic orchid native to North Carolina and
the northernmost extend for this species.
Blooming time: July-October
Occurs: coastal plain
Habitat: This orchid grows on the limbs of cypress, tupelo
and other trees that grow in blackwater river swamps.
Uncommon in the state. Although rarely seen outside its
habitat this orchid can be locally abundant.
