Walking toward the cave of the previous photo

Near Delicate Arch (Arches National Park)

At far left one can see the right end of the cave that appears in the previous photo. The
"moist dry wash" (does that make sense?) was my highway through the upper portion of the
canyon. At the cliff, it bends to the left. While I walked in the wash, Joe Tripod (my
personal assistant) stood firm, holding my camera. I had to wipe his feet after this shot.

Joe and I have often discussed his role, at home and in the field. The subject of compensation is a sensitive one because it touches on the concepts of expectation, service, and pride. Basically, all I expect of Joe is to "just stand there." He does that with pride out of a sense of duty, with no expectation of special remuneration. Despite my offers of a vacation at a "clothing optional" beach, where he would have the opportunity to shoulder the load of a huge telephoto lens for candid shots, he remains steadfast in his desire to serve in the type of work environment displayed here and under the current conditions. Thank you for your concern.

Kudos to Joe. He is underpaid.
