I find this gate intriguing but have no knowledge of it's history.
There are some clues though - the initials 'P' and 'H'; the English Rose and French Fleur-de-Lys; and the Dove of Peace.
Strangely it is dated 1942. I don't think I have ever seen anything made in 1942, the midst of the war years.
I can only assume this rare war-time frivolity was to commemorate a marriage between Philip and Henrietta, maybe.
Perhaps he was shot-down in his Spitfire in 1940 then she nursed him and helped him escape......
