Sky Pond Pano - July 2, '06

I was so happy to get to this lake. I hadn't planned on hiking this far but...what the heck, I had an absolutely beautiful day, and was feeling pretty good. I started at Bear Lake, went past Nymph Lake, to Dream Lake (1.1 mi total), then up and over the ridge to go past Lake Haiyaha (2.2 mi total), then down to the Mills Lake trail junciton, up past (OK this was starting to get tiring) The Loch (5.2 mi total - that is one beautiful lake by the way), then up again and on to Lake of Glass and finally Sky Pond (6.6 mi total). Whew! I took the "short" way down past Alberta falls for a total of about 11.1 miles. I'm sure many of you think of this as a brief jaunt. I, on the other hand, call it a total victory and the longest hike I have done in 27 years (and yeah, I am more than a bit sore today and just trying to recover before the 4th tomorrow).

Sorry about the quality of this one. Between the fact that I was remarkably tired by the time I got to this lake (end of over 6 1/2 miles of hiking and about 1500' of vertical elevation gain), there wasnt really as much oxygen at the 10,900 feet of the lake we I am generally used to (Even living at 5300 feet), the weather was starting to come in (lightning was within 5-10 miles), and having just tripped and hurt one foot, a shin, a hand, and my shoulder in a small boulder field (all doing fine now), I wasn't really thinking clearly and ended up using automatic mode, and a really wide angle lens setting. So.....they didn't blend well and I had to clone correct a bunch of seams. Anyway, it gets the point across.
