Exposed

Bellaire Drive in Lakeview in New Orleans

Today is the ten month anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's march through the Gulf Coast states.
This house, like thousands of others in New Orleans, bares its soul to the elements.
Where are the people who lived here? Hopefully, they were gone when the wall of water slammed into their home sweet home. Hopefully, they did not see their household belongings swirling around in the mad water mixing together with all the other households, floating through the neighborhoods to Canal Street. Hopefully, they have the courage to absorb all of it and one day come back and rebuild, and hopefully, their insurance will pay for some of it--their American dream.
The water line is still on the house unfaded even in the relentless sun of the past ten months, a painful reminder.
The chandelier is still attached as a beacon of hope that one day it will once again give light to a gathering at supper time.
Hopefully.

Pretty frightening that a country with the resources
that we have, can't mobilize enough to take care of
it's own.

Powerful, moving shot. Words cannot express... GMV

I would have not been bothered to buy a renovated home in Lakeview. Unfortunately none were finished. I am trying to live in my heart that this will not happen again. You might think I am crazy, but I want to believe,, so I have faith that the city will come back. Better than before too I hope. I tell you what though, I can attest to the high home insurance premiums,, I think these companies should be hanged!

Oh my goodness, this is so sad. My heart really goes out for those families that have lost so much.

Yes, we do have a long way to go. I have family that were affected by Rita as well as Katrina. Devistation doesn't even begin to describe it. I cannot. I've been down there and my heart and prayers go to everyone in Southern Louisiana. This is a very powerful and moving shot! It just brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for the reminder that there are people who still need us many months later. You have a huge vote from me on this one. God Bless You.

Oh my lord when will it end.
Images of 10,000 mobile homes for relief and nowhere to put them in the UK papers today. Some body out there couldnt organise a booze up in a brewary.

Stunning and quite sad. I agree w/all the comments below.
The inaction from gov't is awful.

People have suffered enough so I cannot call their homes "garbage." But, perhaps I could enter some photos of public officials who are doing nothing about all of this in that category.

I think, Jim has added perfectly to your daily message of the past tan months...you are entering this in the transglobal challenge " Garbage " aren't you !!

Very powerful shot, Coleen. I may get the courage up to go get some more pics in the next few days.

this is just a damned shame. Once the media hype stops, we often times forget the pain and strife others are suffering long after events such as these have passed. To think that almost a year afterward *nothing* has been done in *so* many cases. Our government should be ashamed. Billion$ being spent in foriegn countries every day, and we are not taking car of our own - SHAME - SHAME - SHAME!!!!!

This is a very sad thing to see.
The chandelier may offer a glimmer of hope, however, a curbside appraisal
of the foundation seriously questions the future of this once proud structure.

A powerful message here with that wet bedraggled flag. This should be on the cover of some national magazine. Especially right before election day!
