... and on this little hillside, I found the best collection of them I had ever seen

I used to live right next to this nature preserve, and I know where a lot of the cool plants grow. Once back then, I went to this hillside every day in June, waiting til these beautiful flowers had gone to seed. When they had, I had about one afternoon to collect the seeds, because the birds and critters will get 'em as soon as the seeds are ripe. I got a few seeds, brought them back to my lathhouse, planted them, and actually got a couple to germinate and flower
