Roubaix

Roubaix, France view map

Late evening in Roubaix. This photo taken at around 11 PM. At that time there were not too many cars on the streets, so I had to take over 50 photos before got one with several car light trails in one exposure.
Building on the left side is The world of work archive center (le Centre des Archives du Monde du Travail).
The following information is from roubaixtourisme.com web site:

Formerly a cotton mill, the Motte Bossut factory is one of the jewels in the crown of northern French industrial architecture. This building was commissioned by Louis Motte Bossut, Roubaix industrialist who contributed to Roubaix industry, borrowing much of his expertise and skill from the English.
This factory was gradually enlarged until 1920, when it was last renovated. Its owner used the latest English techniques, in particular in fire prevention.
It is a mix between regional and medieval architecture imported from across the channel, and it is astonishing both for its homogeneity and its sheer enormity.
The cotton mill fell victim to the industrial slump and closed in 1981. Renovated by the architect A Sarfati as part of the programme of State works, it has been home since 1993 to the National World of Work archive centre.
This factory is now a typical example of the policy of renovation of industrial wastelands led by the town of Roubaix, preserving many of its old buildings and breathing new life into them. Several of these factories have become offices, dance studios…
