This photo was take by the famous photographer EA Hegg, who documented much of the Alaskan Gold Rush. My relative, Lewis Lepley, is pictured here. Family ledgend has it that Lewis was snowed in for the winter with one of his partners. The partner died and Lewis was unable to get him out of the cabin. Lewis and the partner were not found until spring. Lewis had gone mad and spent the rest of his life in an institution in San Francisco.
