June 20, 2006

Today, I started the daunting task of packing for the next Stay-Focused trip.
Stay-Focused. Inc. is an organization for which I have been volunteering for the last 3 years. The goal is to provide an adaptive SCUBA diving program for teenagers with paraplegia. I absolutely love the program and have learned much from the participants and staff. What I haven't learned yet is how to manage the ever-growing amount of gear that goes with me.
The medical kit has grown. I wear the hat of underwater photographer as well. And, this year, we are taking on our first medical research project, examining the effects of diving on the pulmonary function of individuals with disabilities. As a result, spirometers and peak flow meters are making the trip. And, of course, I have to bring my dive gear.
I've always believed in having the right tool for the right job. And, since I've managed to find many jobs to do, my home has become a glorified garage.
I'm once again taking the side-show on the road.
Perhaps after this trip, I'll follow my other mantra which is "simplify, simplify, simplify" and have a garage sale...ahh, probably not.

An expensive garage! You capture the moment well.
