Uffington White Horse

Uffington, Oxfordshire, England

This Iron-age grafitti is notoriously difficult to photograph from the ground.
Please see my Uffington White Horse gallery for a few of my attempts.

So together with my son Richard as pilot, I took to the air whilst the grass
is so green and the sun shone beautifully yesterday.

It's still not easy to capture this local icon (the oldest chalk figure in the UK)
from the air. But I think with a bit of trial and error on choice of aircraft,
time of day, time of year, approach angle, lens etc etc we might take the perfect
picture one day. At least it's something to aim for.

Meanwhile, this is the first attempt. Here's an alternative closer shot:

I had my image choice set to 'original' and initially only saw the top half which I thought was a pretty amazing view, and then I scrolled down to see the white horse! Excellent - the detail is superb.

Very well done, John. I didn't think you were up a church spire again LOL.

Brilliant shot, lucky so and so :p I like the shot you chose for pad as it includes more of the area the horse is sited in. Very cool, especially as I've been up there now it's nice to see it from this angle.
