Palo verde tree

Cercidium floridum, native to the Sonoran Desert, is called Palo Verde which means ‘green stick’ in Spanish; the green stems and bark allow it to persist in a desert environment. When no leaves are present, the plant relies on the green stems and branches to carry on the process of photosynthesis.
