Way off the trail and must check bearings frequently using the distant mountain
peaks as landmarks because one dune looks just like the next and the wind can
remove one's footprints within minutes, so it would be VERY easy (and potentially
fatal) to get lost. A pocket GPS would have been very handy out there.
