Bogdan,
no need to be sorry. I really appreciate your comment :)
Back to the original , with a touch of extra saturation perhaps.

I liked the first version better. All the negative space in it was balancing the shell quite nicely. Now the picture is sort off... i dunno... bottom heavy? (and "in-your-face" a bit). It almost feels the picture is leaking at the bottom for some reason. Finally, now the sand texture is overpowering the shell's competing for my eyes attention (not in a good way). Sorry for all this... just my two cents...

Darn, I'm as split about it as you are Rod :)

The new crop certainly makes the shell the star attraction & it looks terrific now but there's also a quality to the first shot that's now missing, maybe space. I can't make up me mind on this one Techo.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Yes, texture was supposed to be the star of the photo and the shell of course :)
I've uploaded a differently cropped version that should take all of your comments into consideration.

I would have thought the light coming through the shell made it anything but boring, its just the background tries to grab me attention away from the focal point but me mind does wonder these days:-). But yet again the sand does add some drama so you're probably correct Bogdan mate:-)

Rod, Actually I think the texture of the sand complements the texture of the shell rather nicely. Without this texture (think smooth sand) we would have "yet another boring shell on sand" picture.
I like this shot just the way it is. Bogdan

I love the lighting here the shell is stunning init. Somehow I would like to see a less dominant background for the shell, but how, is the question:-)

Good DOF, Techo. I also like the way the low angle of the sun makes the shell appear to be lit from within. It's a beautiful shell, BTW. The ones I find are always just ordinary, nothing like this.
