This area of grasses, heather and bracken in the Greater London region was home to a nice population of adders which I observed over a couple of days in June 2005. Scattered through the area were several small piles of logs and debris which were an obvious focal point for looking as they had ideal safe basking areas.Conservationists face a constant battle in keeping these areas open with the continued encroachment of trees threatening to wipe out this small grass/heathland community and the animals that rely on it.
