Girls in White Dresses

Ursuline Academy in New Orleans

Almost nine months ago this school sat in six feet of water for three weeks. Classes resumed in January. Of the 100 who began class on August 15, 87 returned following Katrina and graduated tonight.
It was the 279th commencement at Ursuline in New Orleans and the girls wore the traditional white dresses and carried one dozen red roses. Each girl is introduced individually and makes a curtsy--lots of nervousness going on while waiting in the wings.
I climbed a palm tree to get this shot.

Aren't palm trees a lot harder coming down than when you're going up? Great photojournalism, Colonel.

Coleen, for crying out loud, get OUT of that palm tree.

I have this mental image of you hanging from a branch. :) Great POV of this lovely historic ceremony.

Did you really climb a palm tree!?! Cool shot and nice story. I saw another school on the news tonight regarding the same topic~ first class to graduate after Katrina. Thanks for sharing.
