I got to sit at the "kids' table" at breakfast today.
I remember when I was a kid, all I wanted to do was to sit at the "grown-ups' table". These days, I find it a refreshing break to opt for the alternative. I had an intriguing conversation with Meghan today about the uses of Fruitloops. Though made of not much more than sugar, they can be nourishing. Today, I learned how they can be a source of entertainment for an entire meal!
As adults, we often times need to be witty...sometimes laughing can require much energy. On the other hand, children can find joy and humor in just about everything. There is a simplicity that is too often lost under layers and layers of the burdens of adulthood. Being in the company of children can often help to shed some of these burdens for a short period of time.
I had a chance to enjoy a simple pace of life today. I walked for hours through the Doris Duke Gardens on the campus of Duke University today. It was a gloriously beautiful day, filled with rich sights and sounds.
