Poverty

Are the poor responsible for their state of poverty?
Or is society culpable for having failed them?

Is the prevailing social Darwinism - the survival of the fittest -
morally and humanistically defensible?
Or does society debase itself and drift towards barbarism
by abandoning its weakest citizens?

Does the paradigm of fierce competition in society lead to
major advances and evolutionary strides?
Or does this competitive impulse further compromise the weakest and most vulnerable,
and increase the stratification of society?

Ironic shopping bag in photo: Is this the best we can do? A very moving image.

The contrast between those clean white doors and the dirty sheets she sleeps in should make us think.

Sometimes it hurts, seeing people suffering and cannot help them. Or maybe to lazy or to stingy. When I see such pictures or seeing these people on the streets, I get a bad confience or the feeling that I can't do anything against worlds poverty.
Great shot!

Excellent foto perfect in B&W. I have very mixed feelings when I see fotos like this, many street people need help but I think many are capable of self help but choose to live the way they do. A very controversial subject.
