that looks like to me to be a Large black fly called "Copestylum mexicanum" hope that solves the mystery!

does any one know what fly this is? We found this in our back yard in Pennsylvania.

What kind of fly is this? I saw one similar...biggest fly I have ever seen...ALL dark black 1 and 1/2" long and 1" wide...large wings! Anyone know this fellow?

the more I look at this the more I can't help an assumption of its awearness of you...it's trying to imagine a view and conception of a camera from a damaged compound eye...the consideration of a fly being a very uselful surveillance device...you can really think yourself into a human stupour with these shots! Just fantastic. V

brilliant Allon! The damage on it's eye really makes me consider how it sees. Is it pollen on the proboscis? What sort of fly is it? Sorry...your fly posts keep popping up in my favourites and creating lots of questions. :)
