This was back before Nature Conservancy took over the land and before they destroyed the decades-old Australian Pines that grew along the ridgeline and State Road 707. The destruction of the pines eliminated the afternoon shade on the beach, in favor of much shorter uglier "native" vegetation that makes the beach hotter than hell in the late afternoon. My charitable donations to the Nature Conservancy ceased when I saw what they did to this beautiful area.
