We got back last night from a long weekend of diving. This picture will go into
the new Puerto Galera gallery which I will soon create in my main diving gallery.
These guys are shy, and they prefer to hide behind the sea whip. In order to get a
picture, move one hand slowly around some distance behind the sea whip. When the
crab moves away from the hand, that's the chance. Remember to keep the hand out
of the shot! Meanwhile the other hand holds the camera rig steady and pre-focussed ...
I'd never seen one on a sea whip before; usually I find them in sea pens or on
other soft coral. If you're not sure of scale, consider that the small sea
whip to which this crab is clinging is perhaps 1cm thick. This was at a depth
of about 10m.
Update 2006.04.19: this picture is in the Image By Chance gallery and in the
2006.04.13 Puerto Galera gallery of the diving and snorkelling gallery.
