We Are Immigrants

I see pride and dignity in this man's face. Also determination.

Added text: My experiences may differ from yours but I live in an area
where there are many hard working, tax paying immigrant families; Mexican/Hispanic
and Asian. They contibute greatly to the local economy. I am glad they are here. Like
all of us immigrants in the US, they take a lot of flack when they first immigrate.

Interesting photo that demonstrates this is a complex issue, not amenable to a quick fix.

Thought only the Red Indians and "Mexicans" where NO immigrants in the U.S.A.
From what we learned at school is that all the oil rich grounds and more,in the south of the U.S, was stolen from the mexicans by the so calles "americans".
But probably my schoolbooks are out of date(as I am) ;-)))

These are great pictures. I get more upset each time I see the word "immigrant". Isn't the controversy over "illegal immigrants' rather than everyone who has entered the United States for purposes accepted by the laws of our land? Faye

Always feel free to say what you want to in my galleries. I'm all for freedom of speech.

Everything in Southern California has Spanish sub caption now, (even Disneyland signs) How is this fair? Do you see Middle Eastern or Asian verbiage sub captioned? We recently had a boat load of illegal Asians rounded up and immediately processed for deportation. Why? Don't they have as much right to amnesty as someone that jumped over a border fence a week ago? Sorry Cheryl, I could write a book on my feelings.

Good for him! There is a difference between immigrants and aliens. However, I do agree with purpod to a certain extent. I don't know why I have to make a choice between Spanish and English on a phone menu. Learn our language. Sorry for the editorial but you had to know they were coming. :) Great candid capture. I see his pride too.

My grandparents were immigrants too; but they went through Ellis Island, learned the language, the history & laws, working hard to follow all of the rules to becoming an American Citizen. Why is it that the current illegal immigrants can't do the same if they love this country so much?
