These little guys are getting rarer and rarer in Bahrain and they are mighty shy. I've never had a chance to photograph one before as they always run into the undergrowth as soon as they spot you. This chap however initially had his back to me when I saw him, so was able to set up the shot and pray that he would turn around. I got lucky - he did.

Many, many years ago when I was new to the island, I rescued one of these which was on sale, in a cage, at the Central market. We released it back into the wild and only then did I realise that they have quite vicious teeth!
