Winter's Grip 03_09_06.jpg

Last week, here in Utah, we had temperatures near 60 degrees. The first of Spring's flowers are beginning to bloom. The sun on your face felt warm and you didn't want to wear even a light sweater.

Today we were reminded the Winter hasn't yet loosened its icy grip on our valley here in the heart of Utah.

Jonathan, I'm sure looking forward to our Yellowstone trip in May. I sure hope we don't get a chance to take a photo like this but be prepared for it just in case the weather does turn bad. Last June 1 it snowed six inches on me in Yellowstone.

Brrrr, glad we are going to Yellowstone and not Utah! But really Bill you have the knack of capturing a feeling in a pciture that makes you feel like you are standing right there. It's almost scary. Great work. Keep them coming.

Jim you hit it and that is just what I was looking for in this picture.

I wanted this tangle of scrub oak to give that closed in, gripping and smothering feeling. Something you would need to hack through to get to your goal. The feeling of a long tough journey with barriers in the way. Something that says, the "straight and narrow" is never straight or narrow and that is "life". Life isn't really black and white but made up of varying shades of gray. Most of all, you really don't know what is hidden just around the corner.

This picture really sums up how I was feeling late yesterday.

I really like this image a lot, I've been staring at it for quite a while ( even longer than I stare at the pic's of Wanda, if you can believe that) trying to figure out why I'm so moved by it. I guess it's because I'm claustrophobic and the dark branches on the bottom and both sides make me feel trapped in, but the mountain stands out like a sanctuary if you can climb your way out of the darkness, like a beacon of hope. Lovely image. Jim

What a nice shot! Do you ever shoot large format? I would imagine you could work that medium very well...great shot.
