Thin Ice II ~ March 7

Lake Koronis, Minnesota

It's late in the season and the ice is opening up on area lakes. That doesn't however dissuade those who wish to get in a bit more of late-season ice fishing. Note the thin ice signs; a lack of signs doesn't mean the ice is safe and the Department of Natural Resources always cautions there is no such thing as "safe ice."

Scary! That vehicle is much too close to that melting section... Nice shot!

Excellent b&w picture with nice minimalist effect ...
I have never seen this before. Thank you for the description, Greg.

There's something about being on the ice that scares the crap out of me. Even if the ice is a foot thick, it cracks and shifts. Hearing the groans and cracks of ice while sitting on it is very disconcerting. I know it's mostly an irrational fear, but I don't think my nerves would take driving on it.

Brainless. I suppose we'll be reading about him in the paper.

Yeh and that rock looks like a tombstone. :) I've been on ice when it's starting cracking around me. Not fun. Great scenic photo of some crazy person.

We´ve got brave-hearts over here too... Me, on the other hand, have a great deal of respect for the ice and when I see it starting to get thin theres no way I´m going out there.
Great shot!

It looks brrrrrr to me. I cannot imagine taking a heavy vehicle like that out on ice that is not safe.

Nice, yet nervous shot.

I don't think I would want to walk on it, let alone drive on it.
Dennis Hoyne08-Mar-2006 05:08
I wonder how the fishing was.
