19Feb06 Swaziland Basket - 10202

Photo a Day, Day 326...Very unmotivated to go out and photograph something in the bitter cold/wind... so ended up taking some shots of this little handmade basket a friend sent from Africa.... I always find it ironic when take several shots of an object and like the first shot best which was the case here..

If you want to see more of who is doing the February in B/W Challenge check out: http://www.pbase.com/topics/cjburianek/bw_feb.

ACR, Luminosity Channel to create b/w, Masked Curves to create burned in corners, Resize, Frame, Sharpen: PhotoshopCS2

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
1/3s f/11.0 at 100.0mm iso400 full exif

I like this in black and white and the raffia is shown well. Usually, the first is always the best.

So, you're saying you were a basket case today? :-)

Beautiful tight shot. The texture in this is wonderful.

CJ, have you ever walked into every store only to return to the very first one to buy what you saw in there hours before ??? Same with photos, happens all the time. One good lesson I have learned on pbase is there may not be a good shot in the entire subject but there can be a part of it that exceeds...this is one of those. The focus on the rafia & the contrasts between the colours of beads...impressive ! GMV

Very nicely shot.

Good contrast in the texture and color of the beads and basket.
